Choosing Paint Colors

Choosing paint colors for you home can often be a difficult and overwhelming decision.  The colors available are endless, and how do you choose the ones that will look best on your house? Here are a few tips on helping make the decision that works for you.

Limit your options

Instead of standing in front of a color display, trying to get ideas from a selection of 1300 or so colors, make some small choices on what colors you think you may like and narrow your options down. Driving around and looking at other houses is a great way to get ideas!

Get Samples

Sample containers of paint are always available to purchase. Get a few and try different colors out.  This gives you the option to apply paint on a large color test sheet or directly on your house. Now you can stand back and get a much better idea of how the color will look in the actual environment it will be in.

Use Contrasting Colors

After you have chosen your wall or body color, use contrasting colors for your trim or accent.  Similar colors tend to look slightly bland and plain. Contrasting colors will be eye catching and very appealing.

There are many more techniques for choosing your colors, and there really is no wrong way to pick them. In the end, the most important thing is that you are happy with your finished project.
